Autumn and Winter Wrap Up

One of my favorite new readers, Bailey posted a comment that I loved so much that I decided to dedicate an Ask Jenna Sais Quois post to it! So I decided to sum up some of my favorite Autumn and Winter trends for her! Check them out below, and let me know if there are any I've missed!

1 Chunky knits in rich colors or basic black
2 Classic Ray Ban sunglasses
3 The "infinity scarf" had a big moment in 2011
4 The faux fur collar, on many different types of jackets
5 Military inspired pieces, including outerwear
6 A classic, structured handbag with metal details

7 Leather gloves to add a pop of color
8 The cardigan, whether feminine and detailed, or boyish and basic
9 Chanel nailpolish in any of these colors
10 The flirty, flouncy high-waisted skirt
11 Brown oxfords (with black tights)
Brown with black was a huge trend this Autumn and Winter
12 Classic round-toe pumps, patent leather
13 Tall riding boots
14 Black suede "slouchy" booties worn with tights, or skinny jeans

Packaging Design: Nordstrom Hosiery

I am loving the packaging redesign for Nordstrom Hosiery. They have really done some cool things with their typography, and I love the clean, classic, and vintage-glamour-inspired photography as well. They were designed by Turnstyle and featured on Lovely Package.

Cocktail Hour: White Russian

It's Friday, which means another lovely Cocktail Hour post. Today I'm featuring the White Russian, which is a quintessential 1960's cocktail in it's own right, but often gets upstaged by the martini, the old-fashioned, and other more notably retro drinks. One interesting fact I found in my research is that the White Russian has no Russian origin at all, and is just named that because it uses Vodka. It is a variation of the Black Russian, which I've never sampled...have you? Maybe a Cocktail Hour post for another week!

Got a signature drink that's perfect for a good old fashioned cocktail party? Leave a comment here, and we will feature it next week!

Love in Spades

Have you seen the sneak peek of Kate Spade for Spring? I'm completely in love with these bright, saturated colors. It's inspiring me to phase all the black and gray out of my winter wardrobe and break out the color! And the gold necklace with the glasses is a big-time want.

Hello, everyone! It's Wednesday, and that means another L'Amour List! 2 Her growing globe collection

3 Trying to recreate this perfect rainy day outfit

Think of Spring

We had a stretch of absolutely gorgeous weather. Three days of it, or maybe even more. All the unhappiness in the world (er...Columbus, Ohio) melted away. And then the hail, sleet, rain, and ice came back with a vengeance. And that is where we landed today. Thus, I bring you several Springtime images I've pinned on Pinterest (follow me here) that make me close my eyes and remember what it was like to feel the sunshine on my face. Come back soon, Spring?

Louis Vuitton Fall 2010

I know I am very late to the party by posting this, but I bought Mad Men Season 2 on DVD yesterday (the subsequent hibernation will begin right after work today) and it reminded me of the campaign from Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 that the television show very clearly inspired. I have said it before, and I'll say it again. I hope this level of polish in womens' fashion is really on it's way back, and for good.

Cocktail Hour: Dirty Shirley

This adults-only spin on a childhood classic is so much fun. It tastes great, looks cute, and who doesn't love maraschino cherries? I was inspired by a favorite Columbus restaurant, Surly Girl Saloon, Wednesday night when I ordered their variation called the Surley Temple. It uses Faygo Red Pop instead of grenadine! My recipe is the old classic, but with a vodka kick. Cheers!

You can purchase those adorable red and white striped straws right here. They would be perfect for making any party or event extra festive.

Yellow Fever

I am dying for these gorgeous satin slingbacks. The saffron color is just so deliciously rich. I am smitten.

L'Amour List: Cate

I spend a lot of time talking about things I love on this blog. In fact, I do it every single day. So I decided to turn the tables on you readers a bit! Every Wednesday I am going to feature a new Jenna Sais Quois reader, or a blogger, or general mover-and-shaker in order to change it up a bit. Thus, the L'Amour List is born. Today, to hit the ground running, I feature my fellow Columbus  blogger, and best friend, Cate!

1 Cate's obsessed with pears. And words that sound like they start with "pear"...It mostly started because of the Joanna Newsom song "Peach Plum Pear" // photo

2 Her big celebrity crush, Andrew Bird // photo

3 She blogs about bookshelves a lot, but this one is definitely her fave

4 The dress that got away...from Urban Outfitters

5 A big time Want: An Olympus Pen half-frame camera // photo

6 She loves the movie The Shop Around The Corner (and owns a hat just like the one Margaret Sullivan is wearing here)

7 The last book she read: Super Sad True Love Stories by Gary Shteyngart

8 Her shoe obsession, brown oxfords of any kind...seriously.

9 A photo she took at the Gallery Hop in the Short North

10 Her favorite relaxing beverage, a nice bottle of wine (a pretty label is a must) // photo

And there you have it folks, Cate's L'Amour List! Would you like to share some of the things you love? If you're interested in having your own list, or promoting your blog, leave a comment below and you could be next Week's featured L'Amour Lister!

Oh My Grammys!

I have been having a lot of fun with the Jenna Sais Quois Red Carpet Awards this Winter. Check out my take on the Golden Globes and Sag Awards. And of course, the 2011 Grammy's did not disappoint! While there were some really amazing looks, and quite a few perfectly adequate ones, the Grammys were definitely about taking a risk...and well, some weren't as rewarding as others. See for yourselves!

Jennifer Lopez is my first pick for Best Dressed in this silver Pucci minidress. I love everything about this look, but especially those long extensions. She's still got it, and she's definitely working with it.

Kim Kardashian is definitely a Worst Dressed pick for me because I feel like for someone so beautiful, she really isn't doing very well on the red carpet. This Kaufman Franco dress is kind of shapeless, unflattering, and really just something we've seen again and again. Change it up, Kim!

Keri Hilson, a Best Dressed nominee, looked absolutely polished and chic on the red carpet in this Basil Soda Couture dress. I am in love with the drama of the neckline, paired with the structure of her asymmetrical hair. It's just perfection.

I am really confused by Worst Dressed nominee, Hayley Williams' red carpet look. Sequins, maribou, and see-through netting all in one dress? That is quite the feat by designer Jeremy Williams. Not to mention the clash of the fushia feathers with her hair color...it's just a lot for me to digest.

Though this look is definitely a bit mature for someone as young as Selena Gomez, I am still giving her a Best Dressed award for this J. Mendel dress. From the neck down, it's absolutely stunning, and perfectly tailored. From the neck up, she kind of looks like Rachel Bilson circa The OC, but adorable nonetheless.

Ciara is without a doubt a Worst Dressed award winner. There is nothing redeemable about this entire look. The dress is bizarre, the shoes are way too heavy for the hemline, and when you add that Naomi Campell hairstyle...it's just a lot.

And there you have my 2011 Grammy Red Carpet Awards! Do you agree with my picks, or have some of your own? Leave a comment below!

Good Old-Fashioned Romance

I never considered myself a hopeless romantic, but I watch way too many old movies to be anything else. It never occurred to me that this was completely skewing my mind to what modern romance was like. I realized yesterday, on Valentine's Day, that no matter how and when I find the man of my dreams, he won't be able to dance like Gene Kelly or sing like Frank Sinatra. He won't chase after me on a train, or kiss me in the Times Square wearing a sailor's uniform, or strike up the band to play our song. And our song will most definitely not be Time After Time, or You Belong To Me, or any of those wonderful songs my grandparents danced to.

Nobody ever threw rocks at my window, because they could just call my cellphone. Nobody ever wrote me a love letter, because they could just send me an e-mail. But, as God is my witness, when I really do fall in love, it may not look quite like this to everyone else, but these photos are how it will look to me. And we will still get to dance like crazy to this, so modern life does have it's perks...

Valentine Love

Well, darlings, Valentine's Day has arrived! Today, I want to celebrate by showing you some of my favorite Valentine "pins" from Pinterest. You can follow me on Pinterest by clicking here! I already celebrated Saturday night, in "single gal about town" fashion, by putting on some bright red lipstick and systematically planting big cheek kisses on all of my friends throughout the night. Just a Jenna Sais Quois way of spreading the love...How are you planning on celebrating V-day?

Cocktail Hour: Berry Kiss

In honor of Valentine's Day I bring you a cocktail that is both romantic and sweet; The Berry Kiss. This is a recipe adapted from a popular UK cocktail called the Bramble. It's a delicious, light blend of Acai flavored vodka and simple syrup, mixed with some sparkling wine, blackberry jam and lemon juice for a fruity, fresh flavor you won't soon forget. Make this for your special someone this V-day and be sure to let me know how it turns out!
