Giving Thanks

It is November, and that means that it's time to start thinking about our tablescapes for probably the biggest family feast of the year! As I was growing up, my mother always set the table so beautifully for Thanksgiving, which was hosted at our house every year. Some of my best holiday memories are of Thanksgivings around the kids table in the kitchen (which I still sit at, by the way) that my mother always decorated just as beautifully as the adult table in the dining room.

I love this bed from Crate&Barrel but I especially love the styling of the room around it! Hello, that pink chair? I would totally buy this if it wasn't over 1,000 dollars. And the room, well the great thing about being a designer is that you can copy any look on a budget.

A New Season for Jenna Sais Quois

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween! I love the month of October so much, but I can't suppress the pang of excitement I get when I see the holiday decorations pop up in stores and online! It's like November 1st is the start of an entirely new season. And in my personal life, it is the start of something new as well! Brian and I mutually decided to go our separate ways after a year and nine months together. I truly feel that it is the best thing for both of us, and wish him the best of luck on his grad school endeavors in Atlanta. 

I, on the other hand, will be back to blogging, and getting excited about the string of my favorite holidays: Thanksgiving, my Birthday (a holiday to me!) and Christmas! And I have already been scoping out some fabulous Holiday items to blog about.

Best Wedding Invitation Ever!

Okay, okay...Jenna Sais Quois has been packed with wedding content lately, but if I find good ideas I have to share them! That's the point!

Well, anyway today, my co-worker Heather shared this with me, and it was pretty much the most amazing wedding invite in the entire world. Including your own little love story with your wedding invitation is such a personal way to include your guests in this happy event. Enjoy!

Thank Goodness for Sleeves!

Photos of Ivanka Trump's custom Vera Wang wedding gown are all over the internet, and I am in love with the sleeves. I'm praying this kicks off a new trend, because no offense, but the strapless gown with the full gathered skirt is getting a bit...one note if you ask me! This classic silhouette is reminiscent of Gracy Kelly's wedding gown, which I've always been in love with. 

Monster Cookies

This is a fantastic cookie all year round, but I love it so much that I wanted to post it for Halloween. Not only does it have a Monstrous name, but with Halloween M&M's, it looks perfect for your Halloween party, or even for a fun treat! 

Here is a recipe for a small batch, though the recipe for a large batch is available here.

1 stick butter

1 c. brown sugar

1 c. white sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

2 tsp. soda

1 3/4 c. flour

3 eggs

1 1/2 c. peanut butter

3 c. quick oatmeal

1/4 lb. chocolate chips

1/4 lb. M&M'S® (plain)

Mix in a bowl in the order given. Drop by large tablespoon or ice cream scoop and flatten. Bake for 12 minutes at 350. Don't over bake. 

Also, keep in mind that because of the myriad of ingredients, including the oatmeal, this batter will seem extremely dry and hard to mix. Do NOT water down.

Sea Monsters!

My friends know that I am a bit annoyed by the author who wrote/defaced the books "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" and "Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters" but with Halloween coming up, I fell in love with this packaging design I saw today on The Dieline. 

The Kraken played a large role in the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and I love that this is a Caribbean rum. It just all adds up beautifully for me! 

Channeling Donna Reed

I always knew I loved Etsy, but my love was taken to a whole new level when I realized that there is a dressmaker, AudreyandGrace who creates custom made 50s inspired cocktail attire in any size specification you want. 

There aren't enough words in the English language to describe how badly I need this dress. But then, they made it available in a myriad of different colored fabrics too. 

They also make this little Garden Party number! I'm not sure I love the fabric shown, but luckily they have six floral fabrics to choose from. I seriously would wear dresses like these every day and not even care if people looked at me strangely. I blame my Grandmother for letting me color in my mother's old Barbie and Skipper coloring books from the sixties. She created a vintage loving monster. And I simply can't get enough of this silhouette from the one of the most elegant times in women's fashion.

These Romanian batteries featured today on The Dieline are just way cooler than anything we could ever buy in the States. I am kind of in love with them.

Halloween How-To

There are so many amazing Halloween ideas floating out there in the Blogosphere, and one of the best I've seen today comes from Bunnycakes. She decorated her October table last year with a spiderweb tablecloth that would be quite easy to make yourself!

Here are my directions for how to imitate her spooky spiderweb Tablecloth!

• Buy an inexpensive black tablecloth, and a white fabric marker
• Start at a central point and make straight lines flaring out all the way to the edges
• Finish with the web lines, arcs that curve outward and intersect with the straight lines
• If you are extra ambitious, you could use a sewing machine to stitch overtop of these markings, making your tablecloth last for years to come!
• Voila! Top your table with some pumpkins, drippy candles, and dim the lights for a Halloween Feast (in costume!) and family memories that will last for years to come.

Dinner Date

It's Friday, and time to celebrate! I am doing so later tonight by going out for sushi with Cate and Erin and the book club girls! Dinner plans are much more fun when you make them in advance, because you have something delightful to look forward to!

Nice day for an Orange wedding

Most people get married in the summer, which is easily the most expensive time to be planning a wedding. Even though the Autumn weather (especially in Ohio) can be pretty unpredictable, it can be the most beautiful time for a wedding! 

Here are some of the results when I searched for the color "Orange" on Project Wedding! 

Orange Wedding Suggestions:

• There's nothing more elegant than a beautiful rust color for fall
  
• Use flowers in the color of leaves, but skip the leaves themselves
• Think about unorthodox centerpieces, like in the top picture, using wheat
• Exposed stems in bridal bouquets look especially great in the fall
• While white tablecloths are the norm, don't be afraid of color (for any season)
• Don't go too matchy-matchy. There are plenty of colors in fall leaves, and you can use them all!
