Babes in Mobland

How fun is this Vanity Fair shoot featuring the ladies from the new HBO Series Boardwalk Empire. I am so excited that period television series' are happening! And then to see one featuring Al Capone and the New Jersey Boardwalk in the 1920's excites me even more. I bet the clothes are absolutely incredible! Now if only I wasn't too cheap to spring for HBO...

ARROWED!

Oh my gosh, further proof that letterer and illustrator Jessica Hische and I are eerily similar (besides her whole amazing design career thing...) is this post she just did for Friends of Type. I love the Teen Girl Squad reference and smooth Lisa Frank-esque bubbly illustration. But seriously, after I heard her speak at OSU, I kind of had a friend crush on her...and now, well, she has become even more amazing to me.

Tricks or Treats?

The cookies featured this year on Martha Stewart's website are incredible. Take a look at some of my favorites? Would you make any of these scary sweets for your trick-or-treaters?

Blown Away

These cut-paper beauties were photographed by the wonderful Carl Kleiner. I've blogged about his photography before here, and once again he does not disappoint when providing endless color and creativity in what would normally be an uninspired Wednesday morning. Love these!

Someone Stole My Wedding

Seriously! I know my own nuptials are farther away than even an Oracle can see, but if I were to get married, I'm fairly positive it would look like this wedding featured on Green Wedding Shoes. It would have these colors, use these flowers, and quite possible contain subtle references to what a board game freak I am...It's kind of eerie, to be honest, but I applaud their excellent taste!

Ask Jenna Sais Quois: Accent Walls

Question: Do people still do "accent walls" where one wall in a space is painted differently? I'm a little worried it's going to come out too... icky for lack of a better word. IF you think this is a good idea, what do you think of me trying to replicate something like the pattern on the green and white chair that you recently posted in your blog? I have dark brown and green in my living room and the white walls bum me out :(
Jolene

My Thoughts: Jolene, to accent or not to accent is definitely a question of personal taste. I love color, and patterns, and making your space fun! You are in your early twenties, so my vote is that you can definitely handle an accent wall! Now that doesn't mean that people don't royally screw them up either...I have pulled a few of what I think are good examples of accent walls for you to check out. They range from subtle and soft, to patterned, to bold and colorful. I just wanted you to see that accent walls are indeed alive and well in the decorating world.

{Photos from here, here, here and here}

Note: Patterned walls are a bit more tricky. If you are confident in your painting skills and you select muted enough colors (highly saturated lime greens can look a little too neon. I recommend using greens similar to the two photos shown above) then I say go for it! Personally, if I wanted a patterned accent wall, I would look into wallpapering.

Sherwin-Williams makes a product called Easy-Change Wallpaper, which sticks up and comes down without paste, glue, etc. It's perfect for renters, and they have a ton of patterns to choose from. Just go to this link, select green, and browse through tons of great patterns like the swatches I've pulled below.

DIY Tip: If you have your heart set on painting, and don't trust your hand to complete an epic mural, check out this DIY project for a modern, patterned accent wall using good old fashioned paint and tape. The finished product could look like this!

Help! A Tale of Two Seat-ies

Okay, I am just going all-out with the bad puns today... Please forgive me, and then help me choose between these two chairs from World Market for my living room! I like them both equally, both will work in the space, and they cost exactly the same. But which one do you like better, readers? The Orange Lattice pattern or the Green Floral one? Quite the quandary.

Halle-Boo-ia!

These kid-friendly Halloween treats featured on One Charming Party are to-DIE-for. Mwah, ha, ha...okay, don't judge. I'm finally getting into the Halloween spirit, here!

Everybody's Workin' for the Weekend

Happy Saturday, everyone! I am taking a little trip out of town soon, but I will leave you with this photo. Isn't it fabulous?

Moccasin Double-Take

Now, while we're on the subject of Moccasins, aren't these handmade ones from Darlingtonia on Etsy adorable? They are $129 each, which is not in my price range, but I can still appreciate them! I love the little flower details on them, and the color palettes she has created are working beautifully. Not to mention the styling...tres cute!

Must-Have #12

The air is getting crisper by the day, and I refuse to put the heat on until December. I am a twenty-something working her first job! What do you think, that I'm made of money!? But the way I've been keeping warm is a secret I am more than happy to share with you, in the form of an Autumn Must-Have Item! So, without further ado, I introduce...

#12 L.L. Bean Moccasin Slippers
{Photos via L.L. Bean}

These things are truly a Godsend. I originally spent a great deal of time coveting Cate's pair last winter until I ordered some of my own. They come in a multitude of colors to choose from, but I prefer the traditional Brown.

Well worth the $50 price tag, these are the first things I slip my feet into when I get home from work, and it's like swaddling my overworked toes inside a cloud. Not to mention the retro factor of wearing moccasin slippers...Now I just need a dog to fetch me them, and a pipe to smoke. Until then, a cup of piping hot pumpkin spice coffee will suffice for now!

Designer Spotlight: Abby Brewster

This stationary system featured on Design Work Life this morning stopped my finger mid-scroll...which is hard to do when I'm breezing through my Google Reader each morning! It was designed by the very talented Abby Brewster for the J.W. Hall Builders. It has a fantastic mid-century modern feel, and combines patterns and visual elements together like gang-busters. I'm kind of obsessed with it...especially the yellow.

Brilliant Branding: Twirl

I am seriously smitten with the packaging for the newest Kate Spade fragrance, Twirl. I think the bottle is beautiful, and the creams, gels, travel fragrance, etc. are also beautifully designed. The best part, in my opinion, is that Kate Spade also released a handbag and heels with the same name to accompany the fragrance. The closure on the bag even matches the top of the perfume bottle. These little nuances do not go unnoticed by the fashionable consumer, now do they?

Anthropologie Addiction

I am seriously craving these clothes from Anthro today...

Oh how I long for the day when I can afford to buy more than one Anthropologie piece per month/pay period...

Swab the Decks

How adorable are these preppy cleaning supplies by Alice Supply Co.? They actually make me want to do housework! They would make great gifts, and I am tempted to start buying bits and pieces of this little collection whenever I've set an extra twenty or thirty dollars aside...but then who knows? They could discontinue them before I've collected them all. These are like the Graphic Designer/Donna-Reed-Wannabe's version of Pokemon cards...And I'm still bitter about the Martha Stewart KitchenAid discontinuation, aka "shot heard 'round Jenna's world." The scourge of being obsessed with having a complete set. Please, Alice Supply Co., I beg you to keep these products until I have managed to purchase them all, but especially the garden hose!

Halloween Amnesia

Okay folks, I admit it. I was way more excited about All Hallow's Eve in 2009...But I haven't completely forgotten that it's just around the corner! Here are some things I've been bookmarking this October to get myself in the Trick or Treat spirit. Enjoy!
