The Bite-Sized Book of Bite-Sized Recipes

I am beyond excited and inspired to share my friend Catherine Murray of Photo Kitchen's latest project, The Bite-Sized Book of Bite-Sized Recipes. You may remember Catherine's stunning photography work from the Cocktail Couture series back in 2011. Now she's putting her love of cooking and food photography to use creating possibly the tiniest, most adorable cookbook ever and she's set up a Kickstarter campaign to fund the project.

"At 1 3/4 inches tall and 1 1/2 inches wide, it might be the smallest cookbook in the world. With 20 photos and recipes of cute, clever, bite-sized dishes, it's perfect for kids, cookbook collectors, foodies, anyone who loves to eat, cook, or entertain, photographers, book lovers, and collectors of tiny things."

If you want a mini-cookbook of your own, donate today! It would make an amazing stocking stuffer, and there's even an option to buy 1 book, and donate 1 to a children's organization. And the Kickstarter ends in just 19 days, so every little bit counts!

Blog Favorites: Skinnytaste

Skinnytaste, from blogger Gina Homolka, has been a favorite blog in our apartment all summer long, and it's been an amazing (and completely fail-safe) resource for delicious and low-calorie recipes. We are a Weight Watchers apartment, so it's great that she's listed the Points+ values there as well as the calories. A major strength of the blog is that nearly every recipe is loaded with fruits and vegetables, and it's great for families because the produce isn't disguised, but rather presented in a way you never knew how delicious it could be!

My roommate Colleen made the Loaded Baked Sweet Potato recipe for us last night and it was to. die. for. Seriously. A perfect welcome to Fall. (Note: this particular recipe is from guest blogger Anjali from The Picky Eater)

Yügen Fotografi

My friend (and current co-worker/former studio-mate from college) Jaclyn Denmark is a rockstar designer by day but also an amazing photographer by night and weekend. She just started this blog to showcase some of the photos captured during her life as a summertime beach bum and year-round Brooklynite and I couldn't wait to share it with you guys as well. Glamping!

When I stumbled across this photo series on Buzzfeed, I just had to share! I have always been a fan of summer camp, having gone to good ole' Camp Frederick quite a few times back in Ohio. But many of the East Coasters I know got to go away to 4 or even 8 week camps almost every year as kids and early teenagers, just like in Bug Juice. Stilling sighing with jealousy! I looooved camp.

How glam are these camp counselors from the 1950s in the photo below? They are up an at-em with their cute little penoir sets and their red lips! I imagine there were some pretty lucky male counselors at the all-boys camp across the lake, just waiting for their chance to spot these bathing beauties in their binoculars. "Just because you're in the woods, it's no excuse not to look your best!" quoth Phyllis Nefler in the classic film, Troop Beverly Hills. Let that be a lesson to us all!

Goodbye Captiva!

I have been having a simply marvelous time on Captiva, in our beachfront cottage! I never ever want to leave. Though, I am sadly aware that the week is coming to an end. I will say, though, the best part about returning to New York City is remembering that I live in a city that plenty of people go to on their vacations. And I'm lucky enough to call it my home. Love you, New York, and I'll see you any day now!

Vacation: All I Ever Wanted!

Well, pardon me for the Go-go's reference! But I will be out of the blogging office for a nice long vacation on Captiva Island in Florida. There will be sun, there will be sand, there will be shells...and there will be plenty of Instagrams! Toodaloo!

I am the last person you'll catch stopping to smell the roses, and unfortunately that also translates to snapping iPhone pictures of said roses. But I am using this summer to participate more in my life, versus breezing through every day on a racetrack to an imaginary finish line. Part of this goal is to snap at least few pictures every day. Post-Hurricane Report: Jane's Carousel

Hello, friends. I wanted to report that I am indeed safe and well after Hurricane Sandy blew through Manhattan a week ago, leaving disastrous damages to the city in its wake. I am lucky enough to live way uptown on top of a big hill, so flood waters weren't a concern. We never lost power either, unlike many of my friends and coworkers who live below 40th street and dealt with wind damage, power outages, and serious flooding.

But, I am very happy to report that Jane's Carousel (which, like me, is from Youngstown, OH) survived the flood as well, and it is sort of a beautiful hurricane miracle. This carousel, built in 1922, lived in a beloved, local amusement park, Idora Park, that both my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles visited back in Youngstown, OH. It closed the year before I was born, after a fire swept through the park. Jane's Carousel was relocated, eventually, to New York City where it was housed in a glass pavilion in Brooklyn Bridge Park. This photo puts the hurricane into quite an eerily beautiful perspective.

Naturals and Neutrals

I am usually quite a fan of color. This we know about me, yes? But I feel like as my style has evolved over the years, or perhaps becomes symptomatic of life in New York, I find myself gravitating quite a bit more to some lovely neutrals and chocolate browns, rustic woodgrain and chunky natural knits. I've assembled a little mood board of neutrality to explain just what I mean. Take a look!

Little Boy Blue

I am completely in love with this perfect bedroom for a little boy. It is colorful, stimulating, and styled to perfection. And of course it prominently features my favorite color...so there's that. The child that lives in this room is beyond lucky to have such a cool space with a place for everything and tons to look at... But, if the little owner of this room is anything like the boys I've encountered through being the oldest of a gaggle of cousins and a middle-school babysitting pro, then I just pray none of these beautiful things get destroyed in a child-sized maelstrom. Enjoy!

Songs of Summer: Some Nights

This album, Some Nights by Fun. is definitely on my "most frequently played" list this summer. My roommate tipped me off that the entire album is just as likable as that "We Are Young" song (before hearing it  eleventy-billion times, anyway) and it really is! The title song basically had me at hello. It's so multi-dimensional and harmonious, not to mention just plain infectious. The singer's voice has such a Freddy Mercury quality. Anyway, give it a listen. It's great on the iPhone, but I bet it's even better on vinyl.

Crystal Clear

I am a big fan of Warby Parker. In fact, I wear their prescription glasses almost every day and I get compliments on them constantly. Even from strangers! (If you're curious, I wear the Crosby Burgundy Fade.) Anyway, I was positively thrilled when the Summer Crystals line popped into my inbox. They are really something beautiful to collect for the season. And the photos are styled to perfection, in the theme of one of my favorite blogs, Things Organized Neatly. I wanted to share the pictures with you, in the hopes that maybe one of these delicious pairs will strike your fancy! They are like a cool, fresh popsicle on a hot, steamy day.
