It is deliciously retro, which if you've been paying attention to this blog, seems to be why I like most, if not all, things...

Madewell

I am loving the Spring 2011 look book from Madewell. I'm honestly beginning to like their clothing more than J. Crew. I crave stopping into the store at Easton. And both the pieces I own (so far) are cool, chic, and most importantly comfortable. Check them out!

Yikes! Stripes!

These striped, paper straws are at every chic/hip party on every blog ever. Basically. Now, sharing a bottle of white wine with a pretty label on it is still the height of sophistication while entertaining at my apartment, but I can't wait for a day when my parties look like these. At 4 dollars a pack, these straws will, in fact, be present.

Wish List: New Towels

I have now technically been an "adult," whether or not I truly act like one, for four full months now. I have my own apartment, a real live full-time job, way too many clothes + an obscene amount of shoes, and now a smart phone glued to my hand so I can check my e-mails every 2.5 minutes. Basically, my point is, I want for nothing! The world is my oyster! All that. So call it materialistic if you will, but there are still several lovely items I have my eye on lately...these beautiful, gold towels from Anthropologie, for example.

I would have to completely redecorate my entire bathroom to integrate these towels into circulation, but if I did end up purchasing them, I'd definitely find a way to do it.

Mad Style

I don't know how I never knew about it until now, but bloggers Tom & Lorenzo give fashion breakdowns of each character on Mad Men, paying special attention to Betty, Joan and Peggy from seasons 1-3, and then a breakdown of each episode in Season 4. I have been simply salivating over a closer look at Betty Draper's clothing... If you are a Mad Men fan, you need to check this out post haste.

In my opinion, Betty never looked better than in this moment.

Could any woman look more amazing at the Super Market?

Also, can I take a moment to say that Janie Bryant, costume designer for the show, published a lovely book on style, The Fashion File, that Eric got me for my birthday. I loved it, and the illustrations are adorable! Check it out on Amazon.

Do The Charleston!

I have spent the past 3 days at work creating this poster, which was just way too much fun for me. I am kind of obsessed with all things vintage, so when I got the chance to work with Art Deco and the Jazz Age, I was like a kid in a candy store. What do you guys think?

I had the most fun with her dress, honestly. It brought me back to those crazy times in my teens when I thought fashion illustration would be a lucrative career option. Dreeeaaaaams.

Freudian Slip

One of my biggest challenges at work is that I had the very big shoes of Laura Sanders to fill! She is one of the most talented designers I've ever met (and a very funny stand-up comedienne as well), and she's definitely a designer with a very distinct style. The hard part is that when I took on her clients, a lot of them want things the way she would have done them...I feel a bit like the graphic designer equivalent of Julia Roberts in Stepmom.

This poster has been an ongoing quarterly thing for the Psychology Club at Ohio State, and features an illustration of Sigmund Freud doing seasonally appropriate activities. The first two images were created by Laura, and the third is the one I did while attempting to mimic Laura's style. I am proud of the final product, and hopefully the untrained eye won't know the difference! But what do your highly-trained eyes think?

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas

It's Christmas morning! 

I just finished a batch of blueberry streusel muffins, helped my mom bake breakfast strata, and chopped up vegetables for a veggie pizza for brunch. All the while, I was watching two of my favorite old movies, Every Girl Should Be Married and Meet Me in St. Louis. I am perfectly happy today and I hope you all are too. Lots of love this Christmas season, from me to you!

Over the Christmas holiday, I am vowing to get prepared for my New Years Resolution of blogging more by...BLOGGING MORE. Starting with this photo I found via YekaMelo, via No Coughing...It's kind of spectacular on so many levels. Love patterend tights and fabulous heels and vintage threads more than words can say.

Sea Island Habitat for Humanity

Hello to whichever faithful blog readers have stuck it out through the radio silence of this Autumn and early Winter here at Jenna Sais Quois. I just got back from a week-long trip to John's Island, South Carolina where myself, and 17 Ohio State Students, participated in the Alternative Winter Break program through Buck-I-Serv. It was an incredible experience, and we worked with Sea Island Habitat for Humanity building flooring systems for two different homes in the area. In the end, our work was completely covered up by plywood, but houses don't stand up straight without a lot of infrastructural stuff underneath, which we were happy to help out with!

It was really hard work, and hammering super long nails into cold, hard wood was a challenge, but by the end we all got some muscles, some construction smarts...and sustained a few minor injuries along the way (i.e. splinters, blisters, bruises, etc.) Here are some photos from the trip. Enjoy!

For Kids: A Closer Look

So, I remember promising more of my thesis to those friends and family who wanted to see how I spent a non-exaggerated 15-20 hours/day Spring Quarter prior to my graduation. Well, today you are in luck, folks. I wanted to share with you some of the pages of my book, as I prep them to zip off to the Index Awards in Copenhagen! (More on THAT later)
